Cascade has just completed its first year of owning and operating Lake Tapps -- an honor, a privilege and a challenge. We have worked with local jurisdictions, interested individuals, state agencies and the community on dozens of issues that come up with a project of this magnitude.
As a result, those of us with responsibility for the lake want to hear from you, the public, about the issues that concern you.
Some issues we can solve together. Others may take our best collective thinking and out of the box solutions. But we are committed to serving our communities and involving them in the solutions.
We want to hear from you. We are offering a brief online survey for Lake Tapps users to gather input. Find the survey at www.cascadewater.org, and also on the Lake Tapps Community Council’s website, Lake Tapps News. Many of you will receive a post card at your home. Please fill it out and let us know what you are thinking.
Then join Cascade, Pierce County, Bonney Lake, Buckley, Auburn and other critical agencies that make a difference every day at Lake Tapps.
Planning together for tomorrow we will make a difference.
Lloyd Warren
Chair of the Board

Today the State Department of Ecology (DOE) officially granted Cascade its water rights package. The water rights package allows Cascade to store water in the Lake Tapps Reservoir, divert water from the White River into Lake Tapps to supply water for the Water Supply Project, and withdraw water from Lake Tapps for municipal water supply purposes. It also guarantees summer recreation levels for Lake Tapps and ensures robust flows in the White River that will support a healthy habitat and salmon runs while improving the river's water quality. This assures Cascade the first new municipal water supply in the region in decades.

| As Cascade undertakes the massive effort of issuing its 2010 Transmission and Supply plan, it isn't "going it alone." Now that Cascade owns and operates Lake Tapps, it has the first new water supply in the region in decades, so the Board of Directors decided to ask dozens of other key stakeholders in the region to join in the planning as well. Lake Tapps Survey
Starting in January, governments and jurisdictions who share responsibility for keeping Lake Tapps a safe, clean, enjoyable public resource will come together to work side-by-side with the community to develop a lake management plan.
"Lake Tapps is a community jewel," says Board Chair Lloyd Warren, inviting the community to participate in a survey about their interests and interactions with the lake. Lake Tapps was purchased in December 2009 as a future water supply. The community is being asked for its input. A Lake Tapps user survey was published in the Bonney Lake Courier Herald and Auburn Reporter, and was mailed to homeowners living within a quarter mile of the lake the first week in December. The survey can also be found on the Cascade and Lake Tapps Community Council website. Deadline for survey response is December 17.
A community forum to discuss the management plan will take place on Thursday, January 13, from 6 to 8 pm, at North Tapps Middle School.
For more information, or to be put on the Lake Tapps Management Plan email list, contact us at contact@cascadewater.org

Cascade Named 2010 EPA WaterSense Promotional Partner Award Winner
Cascade Water Alliance recently received the prestigious US EPA WaterSense Promotional Partner of the Year Award. This award is given to one utility in the country whose water conservation program has distinguished itself by promoting the national WaterSense program. WaterSense is a voluntary labeling program similar to EnergyStar. The WaterSense label on a plumbing fixture, such as a toilet or showerhead, means the product uses 20% less water than a standard model and has been tested for reliable performance.

Cascade visited Issaquah Middle School science classroom in October to measure the flow of sink faucets before and after installing high efficiency aerators. Students calculated the potential water and energy savings from switching out old aerators. All students received an aerator and high efficiency showerhead to take home. Cascade is providing Issaquah Middle School with aerators for all sinks at the school.
